Report & Reflection #10 - Animoto Slideshows & Copyright

Hi everyone

This week was also another important week for us because we had a chance to learn about Animoto and Copyright rules. Elementary school was the first time I had learned about slide shows and I remember I was fascinated to learn about the simple features and yet struggled to make a slideshow. Ever since that experience I had always avoided making power points. Of course, I as time progressed I was getting comfortable with making slideshows but I was never impressed with the outline. Power point had very limited options and there was no need for new exploration. However after exploring about Animoto

Copy Right Law

Understanding the importance of copyright had increased after completing this week’s session. Any online source that are being used towards your personal work must be cited accordingly. Different citations are being required for different purposes. As a Digital, Citizen should obey the Digital Law element six (Ribble, p.11)

I will add this to my PLE under learning and create since this is one of the new tools that we came across and had a chance to learn about it. We had a chance to understand the importance of copyright and explored Animoto.
This week article on feed is about “are cooking crumbling up our privacy? We asked an expert to find out” In some cases having computer cookies can be dangerous because people can track our personal information. Author Montulli had mentioned using Netscape browser can be a much safer choice. Feel free to read the article for further information.

Voice Thread Discussion Blog and Reflection - 9

Hi everyone, I sense that everyone is having a busy month just like how I ‘am since we are all heading towards the end of the term. Every week we had a chance to learn about new tools and engage with other people. Last week we had a chance to work with people that we never met before, but only rely on Todays meet, Google Docs, and Ever note, emails in order to communicate. Which was a great experience, although it was a little bit difficult. This week has also been a great week because we had a chance to learn about Voice thread. Personally I have never heard of this before, this will definitely be a great learning approach for myself. This tool is designed for people to collaborate through voice recordings and type any comments as required. Some people can express their ideas better verbally and some people can learn better by listening, rather than reading. I think this is a great learning strategy because I learn better by listening, watching, speaking and listening to feedback/comments of my work. Also had a chance to participate in The Poll Daddy Polls for the Digital Compass Activity to answer various questions. This is also a good way to learn because this allows everyone to participate and communicate.
I will add Voice thread to my PLE under learn and create because we had a chance to explore about this new tool and created a new account under my name. This is a different way of learning and people have their own ways of learning. I intend to share this tool with other people.

In terms of attaining Digital Citizenship,  is crucial to understand the concept of "Electronic exchange of information" (Ribble p.23). It's important to expand the communication strategies using different  methods.

This week's  Feed I  found an interesting article “TED2015 Skype in the Classroom with Dan Pallotta” basically they will be using Skype in class to share or communicate with other students. To get everyone’s opinions and o learn about something new.  I thought this was kind of a neat idea because now day’s students learn better using the creative strategies. This is great learning approach as well.

Technology use scenario

Technology use scenario

“During word processing class, Mr. McIntosh notices that Mary has both of her hands under the computer desk. As Mr. McIntosh come around to her station Mary puts her hands back on the keyboard but he notices that her cell phone is on her lap with a text on the screen. Mr. McIntosh asks Marty to stay after class, where she says that she was sending a text to her mother about picking her up after school. What does the teacher do”? (Ribble p.92).

This particular scenario definitely falls under Inappropriate Digital Communication because Mary was using her cell phone during her class. (Ribble p. 24). The can cause disturbance to other classmates, she is concentrating on her text messages, rather than her class and also Professor Mr. McIntosh also got distracted due to this situation. There are so many ways she could have avoided this incident by advising her mother of her pick up timings earlier, could of called her mother during her lunch break, or could have went up to Mr. McIntosh and asked for his permission for few minutes for her to use the phone outside of the class. Using cell phone in class should not be allowed, not only Mary is getting distracted, but along with others. Teacher should give her a serious warning and give suggestions for future references so that this incident would not be repeated again. Regardless of the reason Mary was involved in Inappropriate Digital Communication.

Report & Reflection 8 - Wiki vs Google Doc

Hi, I had an amazing learning experience this week, we had a chance to learn about wiki and develop our collaborative skills. Personally I dislike using wiki because of various reasons the content, lack of accuracy, not useful for any academic sources, anyone can add hyperlinks and lists can expand. With all these negative outcomes about wiki, however, there is one good thing that I enjoyed while exploring the collaborative work was that I was able to explore and learned about online teamwork. Donald also mentions “A wiki is a strongly collaborative medium that forces people to be collaborative. More than this, it teaches you to be collaborative within a set of rules, where negotiation, decision - making and eventual agreement are necessary.” another important factors to take into consideration is that exchange each other’s ideas, being able to edit each other’s work, can add files, visuals, search for information regarding a specific topics and Google Docs also has a similar feature. I really like the fact that, everyone can edit each other’s work and add their own inputs. Also in universities we are restricted to reference a Wikipedia, so we really don’t have any benefit from using it. Sometimes I try to use a wiki, but with an enormous amount of hyperlinks I tend to get confused easily.

From the beginning of the term, we had a chance to learn about the nine elements and the benefits it has towards becoming a digital citizen. It is important to have an understanding of Digital Rights and Responsibilities. In that sense, I think it is crucial to understand the four different sub-topics that fall under DRR, first being able to report Cyberbullies, threats, and other inappropriate activities. Second being able to have a secure protection against our privacy information. Third is Freedom of Expression, but still have set limits. Lastly having access to any online materials and have to ensure credit is being reported to that particular source. (Ribble, p.37) I will add this to my PLE because these are important factors to consider to become a Digital Citizen however I will not add Wiki to my PLE because I don’t think it captures the importance of a reliable source.

This week on feedly I had found an amazing article about a Robot named Budgee basically it’s a grocery carrying robot. It will just follow you around and it is responsible for obeying the command of the owner. I thought this a great idea because this will definitely be beneficial for the elderly people, pregnant ladies and people with any disabilities.

Every day is a learning experience for me and my knowledge is improving day by day. I really like the idea of working as group online and share each other’s feedback. Now I know if there is a group presentation or group project we don’t necessarily need to meet up. We can stay where we are and still work online and which will create the same impact as well.

Weekly Report & Reflection 7 Google Docs

Hi Bloggers wow I must say time is flying

This week’s activity was pretty interesting and exciting because we got to work with people that we have never met before.  That was a new experience for me and we had to meet our partners through Todays meet and had to our group presentation using Google doc. This is a great way to doing a group presentation and getting all the ideas together.  I remember we had to do a group project and group members were not willing to meet up because they were all busy with their own schedules. It was really a struggle to follow up with everyone and to even find out, who is responsible for a specific part. We ended up getting a really bad mark on that project because of lack of communication. After discovering about Google Docs and Today meet I ‘am confident that I will not let that happen again because this allows everyone to be online and still work on the project, also we don’t necessarily need to meet up. Now days most of the people prefer to work on online rather than meeting up.

I never used Google Docs, prior to this week’s activity I had a chance to do some exploration and came to know that is useful for uploading a document, Invite other people to collaborate on a specific document, reliable for editing use, comment or view access, make necessary modification  review any previous documents, use for presentations, spreadsheets and drawings. Once all the information gets uploaded in good doc, you can simply access this information from anywhere, don’t have to worry about losing your work anymore, and because everything will be automatically saved. As usual I looked up some you tube’s videos about Google Docs and it made me understand the concept more visually.

The most important feature which I liked, the most was that more than one person can be working on the same document. Everyone can jump in and start including each other’s information, suggesting more ideas, share their researched information, feedbacks and continue to elaborate. People are becoming comfortable working online and this way they are open to incorporating more ideas without hesitating.

In Digital Citizenship is important to understand the “Digital Rights and Responsibilities, this also falls under four sub-topics and we should also focus on that DRS Issues, DRS Inappropriate/ appreciate and DRS Keywords” ( Ribble,p. 36).
I will add this to my PLE under “Professional, Learn and Create” This can be used for professional use and explore all the capacities that it has to offer in the future. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and co-workers so that they can also benefit from this.

This week’s article is about, Iris scanning technology is coming to secure all the smartphones in the future. They making the phone to have more security and also to maintain their privacy in case of the occurrence of theft. I thought this was a great idea. Delta ID unveiled the new feature that it has to offer. This technology will literally allow you to use your eyes to unlock the password from a phone.

This was another learning experience for me since, we had a chance to work people that we don’t really know or met before. Excited for next week, because I get to improve my knowledge. Thank you for another learning experience.

Weekly Report and Reflection - 6

I actually never heard of Evernote tool before, but after hearing about it I simply felt astonished because of the amount of features that it has to offer. This tool can be used for the people who are affected by short term memory loss problems. That can be prevented by storing specific ideas that we see, hear, taste or even smell, essentially falls under everything. I have a major problem in recalling something, especially school related matters and even a simple thing. I feel grateful to learn about this specific tool, this will help me in the long run and will allow me to stay organized.
I would come across so many thoughts throughout my day I would refuse to write it down because of my laziness and I would assume that I will remember, but in reality that is not the case. After hearing about this tool I got so excited I felt though there is a solution for my problem now instantaneously I can simply record everything. Especially using my phone I can access it anywhere, organize it the way I want it to appear and share with people to get their feedbacks. I realized this can be beneficial for group presentations and we can simply have access to all the group members’ information.  As mentioned in this article there are so many features that we can access within Evernote like web clipping, create new tags, create new text notes, use tags, how to modify note source/URL attributes, how to work with notebooks, sharing and collaboration and the power of sync. Even though, there are number of articles posted on Sakai, I felt though I needed to do my own research to clarify some doubts.  I watched a couple of YouTube videos and also because I ‘am a visual learner so I need to see videos and picture in order to comprehend all of the information in proficient matter.

I would definitely add this to my PLE under “learn and create” because this allows me to have new categories of the new tools that I learn about every week. This week on feed, I have come across this article about iPhone 5C and how it exploded in an individual’s pocket during Valentine’s Day. I also use iPhone, I was concerned anyone who is using the iPhone I guess they should be extra cautious or research about it. That sounded pretty dangerous to me that individual was also admitted to the hospital due to that incident.

I read all the comments on this article about Evernote and people seems to be having good experience with it and they also inspired me to open my own account. I was really fascinated to know that we can have access to Evernote using any digital device. By using Evernote, I know that I will be up to date with everything, especially in school. I also have a bad habit of not saying works and I have lost my works in many incidents, but I know this will not happen again because it will automatically save my work. I will never need to worry about losing my work ever again and I can just keep building my ideas. I realized the importance of understanding digital literacy and the sub-topics that fall under digital literacy issues, examples of inappropriate/appropriate digital literacy and digital literacy keywords”(Ribble, p.27).

Overall I had a great experience in exploring Evernote and I will definitely use this in the future, mostly for my education purpose. I will share this with my friends who are not taking this course so that they can also benefit from this. My knowledge is keep improving every week as we are discovering about new Digital tools and I feel confident. Thank you.
